Layer 1 NFT wars
2021 was undoubtedly ‘the year’ for NFTs, with a plethora of new projects being launched weekly. Most of them failed, however a few rose from the ashes and became ‘blue chips’ such as BAYC, Solana MBS, World of Women and a select few others.
With Layer-1 protocol wars still ongoing it’s no wonder why people are investing into new NFTs on different chains other than Ethereum. Ethereum based NFTs, although still capture most of the market share - the valuations on the top projects have priced out most of the public. This is why we are seeing a rise in NFT purchases on other chains such as Solana, LUNA and most recently…NEAR.
Enter, OASIS Network. If adoption is anything to go by then it seems as if the $ROSE ecosystem is due for an explosion. With a host of new partnerships, ever-evolving ecosystem and expanding user base it is clear 2022 will be a big year for Oasis. It’s important to catch L1 narratives early and judging by the buzz around Oasis it is clear that NFTs built on top of it will also be garnering a lot of interest. Oasis Punks is the first (independent) NFT project building on Oasis and here’s why I think it will be one to watch…
Oasis Punks - The Bluechip NFT of Oasis Network?
The Oasis Punks are the first punk collection on the Oasis blockchain. The team have designed more than 180 custom attributes to give a unique look to the Oasis Punk collection. Many traits were designed specifically to pay tribute to the Oasis ecosystem.
Although the project is not officially affiliated with the Oasis Foundation, the team are in close contact with multiple members of the Oasis Foundation, including their amazing business development team and some of their developers. The Oasis foundation team has reviewed the code of the NFTs and marketplace and had only minor and cosmetic remarks which were addressed by the Punks team.
It is worth noting that right after minting, Oasis' first NFT marketplace will open.
Will there be a limit on the number of Oasis Punks people can mint?
The maximum number of Punks people can mint at once is 15. The team have decided not enforce a limit per wallet.
Is there a whitelist?
There is no whitelist, Oasis Punks are first come first served.
What should I do in order to be ready for the mint?
You should bridge some ROSE tokens to the Emerald chain and use MetaMask. Here is a guide explaining how to set up MetaMask for the mint:

Is there a project roadmap?
Current roadmap is: -
(Done) Finalizing the dapp
(Ongoing) Growing the community
(Ongoing) Building multiple partnerships with the Oasis/Emerald ecosystem and the core foundation team
(Ongoing) Launching our NFT marketplace -
(Ongoing) Listing other collections on our marketplace
The Team
The two core founders of the project are 0xPunk and Punk Norris. They are experienced devs who love pixel art, crypto and privacy oriented web3. 0xPunk is a full-time solidity developer while Punk Norris works at a big tech company and does crypto on the side.
The team also consists of two senior developers and a business development wizard.
Aesthetics & Rarity
In terms of aesthetics, the Oasis punks are typical of the pixelated punk design we have become used to in other releases. One added layer is the addition of the Oasis Protocol ‘theme’ to some of the NFTs. From the images above it is also clear that the team pay homage to certain characters famous from TV/Crypto.
Overall, I think they look great and the team have obviously thought about their USP as opposed to just launching a standardised set of NFTs. When I asked about the rarities in the discord, the team pointed out that they will be available directly after mint - which is an added bonus. Sometimes, it can take days or even weeks for projects to launch the rarity and traits of their collection.
Final Thoughts
It seems as though Oasis Punks will have a sell-out pretty quickly once minting commences on the 19th, they currently have over 2000 people in their discord channel and over 3000 on their twitter. Ultimately, it’s a great project to mint as it has novelty status being the first Punks project on Oasis, together with a good amount of development pre-release. The added bonus of being directly available on a secondary marketplace ensures the hype remains.
What will be interesting to see is how the team intend to build further utility to the NFTs and what additions they bring to project’s updated roadmap!
